PS4 Pro games constantly crashing (ce-34878-0)

Hello, I have this PS4 Pro (cuh-7100) where all of a sudden games are crashing on me with error code ce-34878-0

I already pointed out it has to be hardware issue because here is what I tried:

1. Completely reinstalled system software with USB stick on NEW HDD I had (so I also replaced the disk in the process)

2. Tried digital/cd version of games (both crashing randomly often few minutes after start but not at the same time just random, always within 10 minutes)

3. Tried with and without network connection

4. Tried logged in and signed off, in both states crashing

5. tried with tottaly clean and fresh system after installing software through USB on new HDD, NO GAME DATA ARE SAVED ON CONSOLE

All the internet tips are tottaly off me as most of them are regarding software issue or the ones I have already tried. Anyone was in my situation and managed to solve it?

Update (02/01/2020)

I figured console might be overheating as this would make a lot of sense, however fan is working properly, so I am not sure how to eliminate this one.

I have the console dissasembled cleaned everything going for new thermal paste and we will see.

Hi, did replacing the thermal paste worked for you? How did you figured out it was overheating? I have the same issue at every game. Some games crash more often than others.

I don’t think there is any solution to this problem than getting the console replaced. Luckily I have not had a client that has had this issue yet which would be unfixable.

It sounds like a VRAM / APU fault.

yes this is most likely the case, I am thinking about having motherboard replaced but I am not sure if it's even worth these day as PS5 is coming and motherboard can be expensive. The biggest problem is how the system of the console is closed in comparison with regular PC. This exact error code can mean hundred different things...

It’s a issue is sony thats lack responsibility to ps4(pro) player above the ps5 system. Ps5. How it’s work exactly i don’t know jet, and this errors and overheating get only much more in time by ps4. Think max 3 years then ps4 is banned by sony

Has nothing to do with your ps4 almost every one has this, i have pro’s 1 is 1,5 year the other is new with ssd (change the hdd) but the all have it to and crash 2 times in all games every night.. and al systems are just cleaned totally and new cooling past and so on.. think sony is to big new to handle all things, you can see it on the reply if you contact them they are all the same answers for all problems you mail. them. It’s time for a spaceX console?‍?

Update:::

Here is a solution that might work. It’s at least worth trying.

1.       Disconnect from internet connection

2.       Start game that crashes

3.       Game should start now

4.       When you want to go back online reconnect to the internet.

·         I would suggest trying this first with an Ethernet connection not WiFi.

Original Post:

Error CE-34878-0 is a general error indicating that the game you are currently playing has crashed. If you receive a CE-34878-0 error, you will need to restart the game.

If you continue to receive CE-34878-0 errors, it is an indication that something else is wrong, and you should check to ensure your PlayStation 4 system software and the game you are playing are both up to date. Follow these steps to check for updates:

  1. Exit to the PlayStation home screen.
  2. Highlight the game you were playing and press the Options button.
  3. Select Check For Update and allow any game updates to install.
  4. After any updates have finished installing, select Settings at the top of the PlayStation home screen.
  5. Select System Software Update and allow any system updates to install.
  6. Reboot your PlayStation 4.

If you are still receiving CE-34878-0 errors after updating, try the following suggestions:

  • If a PS Camera is connected to the system, remove it and reboot the system, then turn off Enable Face Recognition.
    1. From the PlayStation 4 home screen, select Settings.
    2. Select User.
    3. Select Login Settings.
    4. Uncheck Enable Face Recognition.
  • If you have upgraded the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) in your console, please re-install the original HDD.
  • If the error occurs again, back up your saved data, and then:
    1. From the PlayStation 4 home screen, select Settings.
    2. Select Initialization.
    3. Select Initialize PS4.

I don’t wanna be rude but this is just copied out of some site with basic tips that doesn’t apply to me as you probably didn’t even bother to read what I wrote.

I tried both HDDs the original and the new one with freshly installed software through USB stick in safe mode. In both the same issue is happening. So this can’t be related to the software as I tried multiple games from different developers through CD and also digitally through store.

I found that ssd will fix this issue ,someone write on forum.can you try it ?

@smexhy Yep that's the best you can do for encrypted game platforms. It is not possible to pinpoint the issue, all you can do is elimination.

The corresponding text for CE-34878-0 is just "Application has crashed." so there is very little you can do other than wipe the system clean then try again, if not working, consider it lost cause.

It´s good advice to eliminate all possibilities, I just ran out of things to try. Wiping nor changing disk helped, tried both cd and digital version of games, both crashing, tried with or without internet... so I guess this “pinpoint” thing is beyond me now.

@akaki ozashvili I can try I just can’t think of how this could solve it as console is originally designed to work with HDD not SSD so this shouldn’t make a difference. If you could link me the forum that would be great! Thanks.

Anyone know solution ?

I am not sure but for me NHL 17 also seems it’s not crashing but it would need more testing. Seems like old EA sport games are not crashing? Maybe it’s because overheating?

same problem , i have tried everithing, also with ssd but same error

Just swapped hdd for ssd with fresh software and only one game on console and still randomly getting same error, game loads faster though, lol

Here is a solution that might work. It’s at least worth trying.

1.       Disconnect from internet connection

3.       Game should start now

4.       When you want to go back online reconnect to the internet.

Same issue. I’ve done everything in the book. Won’t even load into Fortnite. Epic says everything’s good on their end and that it’s the console. Sony had me try everything and said the best they can do is for me to pay $100 to send it in for an evaluation. At that point, I might as well as put the money towards a new console?!

It’s crashing on Warzone too, but my other campaign games are fine. Seems to me to be the online multiplayer aspect that’s crashing it.

that isn't a solution Iheart., it has nothing to do with internet connection.

I was having games crash to blue screen with PS4 Pro and I turned it off (not rest mode), unplugged it, and then held down the power button for 15 seconds. After that, I plugged it back in and didn’t have another crash for a month or two. I’m thinking that it’s getting memory dumps and by getting all the power out of the resistors then it reset itself properly. I use rest mode all the time and I think that may be creating those memory problems that create the blue screens.

im starting to think this laser related

i also found out it could be the disc drives daughter board or the nan chip on the motherboard is bad which means your ps4 is done

I also think that you should buy a new one then. I do not know how i can help you. For example I prefer to play games on PC more than on consoles. I know that on PS4 emotions from gameplay are bigger but anyway some games are not available. I am playing now in Valorant, it is a first person shooter. It looks like CSGO but it is much better and I am using also valorboosting.com for my game account ( it is very fast and cheap service). I know that the game is very popular and maybe my info will be usefull for somebody.

I've been having this same problem. I initially thought it was a bug with the game I was playing (Red Dead redemption 2) and it kept crashing but now it does it all the time but I can still play some games like Fifa but only in 1080p resolution.

It worked perfectly fine when I got it but why won't it let me play in 4K as I have the TV to do it.

They won't say what's wrong with it as want to charge me £180 to fix it which is disgusting.

Update (07/26/2020)

That's TTG Bullion for such a quick reply.

I had been thinking it was a motherboard problem but then wondered if it was a problem from a previous update as it was all working fine till last Xmas I think and that's when it begun playing up.

It's just strange as it boots up okay and games install easily enough but unless it's in 1080p it crashes constantly. It doesn't happen as much in 1080p but still will from time to time.

After looking at the price for replacement motherboards I think it's easier to buy a new PS4. I'm thinking of just getting a slim one instead as I've read a lot of people having troubles with the Pro’s and I don't really fancy being burned twice by Sony.
