Recovering ti nspire cx from water damage

I wrecked my calculator yesterday in the morning with sink water when i was cleaning the outside with the cover on. i didn’t realize it was broken until i tried using it before a class in the afternoon. At that time, when i turned it on. the screen was showing the home screen, but there would be a wavy line moving from top to the bottom of the screen every few seconds. And when i tried turning it off it wouldn’t respond. At the time i didn’t have the screwdriver to take out the battery so i left it alone until after my class. When class was over, i checked the calculator and it was off. When i got home in the evening to take it apart and remove the battery, the inside seems dry. I didn’t see any rust or discoloration on the boards. The battery looks fine to me. After letting it dry further and reassembling the calculator, i tried to connect the charger to test if it would turn on last night. After a few minutes of charging the calculator, i can hear a slight noise within the calculator when i press the ON button. The display didn’t show anything (black screen) and oddly, the other metal outlet opposite to the charging port started to heat up. So i disconnected the charging port. And this morning, after reading other online guides about electronics further, i removed the battery. Is there much i can do at this point to recover the calculator? I can’t tell if the display has problems, or the power connector, or other things. Are there ways to find out what’s wrong and to fix it?

You might have luck seeking the help of a local cellphone repair shop. Whenever you encounter liquid damage with any electronic, you always want to turn it off, remove the source of power if possible whether it’s a battery or power cord, and take a look at the inside. You may have a short in or around the charge port. If you see a white, crusty substance around components, that’s an indication of liquid damage. You can use 90% or higher Isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush to clean up corrosion. Considering how long the device was exposed to liquid damage, it may be beyond repair but at least take a shot. If you call any repair shops, ask them what their liquid damage repair/diagnostic costs. Good luck!

Well i just took your advice and took it apart again. I cleaned the top and bottom boards by putting them in 50% isopropyl alcohol (it seems the only stuff they have around here) and brush gently with a toothbrush. Although i cleaned out spots with the white crust you were mentioning. i decided to brush the whole boards. i’m very hopeful since i did not see any burned spots. Right now i’m just waiting for the boards to dry completely before i reassemble the calculator. Though while cleaning, i run into a problem of two black spacers falling out when the boards separated this time. I am curious if there is a guide to figuring out where the black spacers go so i can correctly reassemble the calculator. And thanks for the reply.

The 3rd comment posted at the bottom of the guide explains where the spacers go.

The creator of the guide also didn't know where the spacers came from (see note at Step.6 in the guide ;-)
