Dust in EIZO CG2730. How do I disassemble and clean?

Seen some videos on how to do Dell, Acer, etc. What I am worried about is if the LCD and Backlight are glued together in this model. An iFixit teardown would be great. This company charges premium prices, and has a very limited warranty that does not cover dust. They want $1200 to replace the entire lcd panel.

Hi,

How old is the monitor?

If it is more than 5 years old ignore the following ;-)

According to this there is a 5 year warranty on the main body and LCD panel, subject to a usage time of 30,000 hours or less.

They certainly wrote the warranty to suit themselves but as long as the body of the monitor is not warped or has been damaged in any way and that it is within the timeframe the problem should fall within the warranty provisions and be repaired by them under warranty.

If they still baulk at this, contact your local State or Federal Consumer Affairs office and ask them what options are available to you. It never hurts to ask.

Less than 5 years, Does not cover dust or “dark sub pixels” aka dead pixel. basically they charge a fortune for these and want you to throw out the LCD the minute something goes wrong. unfortunately the brand-name is industry standard for photography I have to use it. I’i'm wondering if anybody has disassembled this one

Hi,

It might be easier to see if you can find a replacement panel than trying to dis-assemble a LCD panel.

Look on the back of the panel itself (no point worrying about the warranty anyway) and see if there is any panel information stamped on it anywhere.

Most panels are made by specialist panel manufacturers and not the monitor makers.

You may be able to source a panel by searching online using the panel information and not the monitor maker information.

Just a thought.

Well it seems like most monitors you can snap the bezel off, undo a few screws then the LCD separates from the backlight, clean and put back together. What i am wondering is if anyone here has done it with this model

Hi,

A search on YouTube and just generally online for EIZO CG2730 "teardown", "service manual", "repair manual" or "parts" produced no helpful results in this regard.

You may be the first to try this.

The backlights may be in strips across the panel and separated by diffuser layers from either the panel or the back housing.

Here's just one example of how it "may" be constructed. There are other methods of how the backlights are situated in a panel.

If the back doesn't want to come off look for screws under any labels attached to the back. Sometimes I've found on various types of electronic equipment that there is a screw that is flush with the body and covered over.

I was lucky that it was still in warranty. The thing is glued together like an iPhone. you have to replace the whole LED
