Can I use my hard drive as an external drive?

My Macbook Pro GPU died and apparently it’s not worth fixing. I want to retrieve my hard drive so I can use it as an external drive on my new Macbook Pro. I was looking for some cases for the hard drive and I found this one. Can you guys tell me if it works with the 2015 retina hard drive model?

You’ve got the right idea! But you’ll need a case that can support the custom SSD. OWC offers one OWC Envoy Pro. Check on eBay for a used one.

Thanks Dan. What's the specification that I should look for? The link I provided says it is a Hard Drive Enclosure for 2.5" SSD/HDD.

@diogocanelas - Maybe its best just to get the OWC case directly from them.

Apple's blade SSD's use a unique connection that no one uses so looking for a standards based case or adapter cable to support it just won't work here. Its not a 2.5" drive its not a M.2 drive so none of these cases or adapters will work.

Here's a great guide on them The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs maybe that can help explain why you need a very special case to hold it that then offers a standards based connection to your new Mac system.
