My MacBook is currently equipped with the Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB graphics card (the one I had bought it with). I am about to take an animation course at my school and the professor has stated that an Intel graphics card will not cut it. I was just curious if I could upgrade the card to a Nvidea or AMD, or should I just simply drop the class?

Laptops tend to have graphics as a chip which is part of the main logic board so you can’t upgrade it like many desktop systems. You do have one possibility, here you’ll replace the logic board with the different logic board that has the better graphics. MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Logic Board Replacement
This series came in two versions the IG Intergraded graphics and the DG for dedicated graphics. Basically the DG adds the additional GPU chip to the system. Here’s a listing from TheBookYard 15” MacBook Pro 2015 logic boards. Sadly, the DG model logic boards are hard to get and are expensive. You may want to look at getting a used system from Amazon or eBay which meets your needs. I’ve been surprised on some deals a few of my customers have gotten.
