The lights & fans turn on, but the screen is completely black.

I purchased an Averatec 3200 off eBay. Once I plugged it in and turned it on, the fan and lights were on but the screen was completely black. I tried going into the bios, inserted a Windows XP install disc, and reseated the hard drive. Nothing has worked. Please help.

Does the laptop have an external display port? if you can plug in an external monitor, maybe you can see if the screen is defective.

Looks like there's a VGA port on it. Try plugging it in and see if you get any visual feedback
