I can't update my os

i am having issues updating my os. the software update option isn’t working and as such can’t update my os. please how do i fix this as my present os is android version 6.0.1

This happened with a friend also..

1. copy all files to laptop or SD card

2. Remove google account - really important to this

3. Setting - Factory Reset phone

4. Let it start

5. Connect wifi. Do not add google acccount - SAY SKIP here

6. Open Settings -> Update

.7. Then add google account...
