I have a couple dozen iPod first gens, and need to test them for my job. I have a firewire cable and a firewire wall charger. I also have a firewire to USB adapter but when I plug in the iPod to my PC a message comes up saying it shorted out. How do I connect iPod Classic 1st gen to my PC??

just thinking if you have another spare firewire cable to try out. or perhaps suggest you to get pci-e firewire card, i feel it would be stable in this way.
somehow did you tried with the firewire to usb before ? does it work?
i am skeptical on this

I don't have spare cable, yet. Are the cards easy to install into a desktop?
I've never used firewire to USB before. I was hoping it'd be the easy solution to my problem.
let me know what mainboard are you using.
if you mainboard has pci-e... that is good.
yep it is easy to install.
normally for desktop,
shut down and off the power
just open up the computer casing and remove one of the protection bracket which is normally held with a screw.
align and install.

Tried this before! Gonna need a mac to use a 1st gen pod
Even with a few adapters my 17 MacBook Pro somehow works and syncs with my 1st gen pod
