iPhone 7 screen swap and strange touchscreen behavior

Hi everyone! Few weeks ago i swapped a broken screen with a, unfortunately, not-so-good new one, and i tested it (without immediately swapping home button) to see if it worked. Once i saw that it worked, i installed the home button on the new screen, trying to be as gentle as possible, and the phone gave me the touch id error message.

So i put the home button back in the original broken screen, but i found a weird behaviour: touchscreen was unresponsive (and home button wasn’t working anymore).

After some attempts, i noticed that if both screen connectors was connected, touchscreen was unresponsive (with or without home button), while if only the left screen connector was connected, touchscreen was working, but, again, no home button. As soon as I plug in the right screen connector, the touchscreen stops working.

In the new screen, touchscreen works with both screen connectors connected, but home button doesn’t work. Have any of you experienced something like this? What can be the cause?

Thanks!

Sounds like a defective display and damaged cables on the old one. If you ordered from Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, AliExpress, or Wish that would explain why. They don’t have any quality control on a lot of products, they’re websites where anyone can sell just about anything regardless of quality. Try a new display from Mobile Sentrix.

Hi! The replacement display i bought works, even if the image quality is not so good. It's the touch of the original one (and home button) that stopped working.

But i made some tests and i found other strange (at least for me) behaviors.

I have another iPhone 7 with an audio problem, but with the working original display and home button. So, i try to test its screen on my main iPhone 7 and the touch didn’t work. But i made the mistake to leave the home button connected, and when i put the screen back to the secondary iPhone 7, its home button didn’t work anymore.

As a last test, i tried the main iPhone 7 original display on the secondary iPhone 7 and touch screen worked (but obviously not the home button)!

So i am a bit confused on what happened.

Update: i tested all three displays with the JC V1 Programmer and while i can read and write data from and into the photosensitive chip of the two original displays, i noticed that the aftermarket one doesn’t have any chip. But it’s the only one that works, if i connect both display connectors, while in both original displays touch doesn’t work, if i connect the right display connector.

So, is it related to the photosensitive chip? The mobo, or some other component, or software, blocks the touch if i connect an original display that has that chip?

Thanks.
