TV turns on sometimes

I have a Phillips LED TV, and it would sometimes turn on. Like, you need to hit the button several times before it turns on. But now, it just won’t turn on. I pulled the boards, and all the electrolytic caps hold a charge. I’m not sure if I should replace the caps, or if something else is potentially wrong. If you think that I should replace the caps, which ones are most likely the cause? Should I do all of them? There is no bulging or leakage. There are about 30 of them.

Hi @diodes123 ,

What is the model number of the TV?

Which "button" are you referring to, the TV's Power button (if it has one) or the TV remote control unit's Power button or both?

@jayeff The model number is 46PFL3608/F7. There is no power button on the TV, even though it's from 2013. I even tried holding the power button down on the remote. Also tried different power outlets in different rooms. When I try to power it on, I hear a click sound, then nothing.

@diodes123 ,

No doubt you know your own TV but this user manual shows that there is a Power button on the rear of the TV. The manual includes the Philips 46PFL3608 although admittedly the /F7 is not shown against the model number

Here’s the service manual for your model TV.

Section 8-1 has the troubleshooting flowcharts, starting with the Power cannot be turned on flowchart.

This will be the place to start, using a DMM (digital multimeter) to test as per the flowchart. The manual also has the schematic diagrams which will help once you get to a point in the flowchart of finding out what is not happening and need to find out why.

Be safety aware when you start testing as there is exposed lethal voltage in the back of a TV when the power is connected

Hopefully a start.

Thanks for your help! I will check out the service manual, but yeah, my TV does not have a power button on the back, side, or anywhere other than the remote. the power board terminals list the voltage that should be on each pin, I'll use my DMM to check it out. Though, as the TV won't turn on, I have a question: If a pin reads 0V, do I just ignore it?

Sorry for the belated follow up. Thanks for your time!

@diodes123

If the TV is in standby mode then 0V may be the reading as with most power supplies these days they provide only perhaps a standby voltage on one lead to the mainboard. Then when the TV is turned on the mainboard signals the power board to turn fully on and supply all the voltages that are required.

So you may have to check that the standby voltage is OK to the mainboard. If the standby LED is on then the standby voltage will be OK as the mainboard needs this to know to turn on the LED

Looking at the schematic for the power board there is a P_On lead (pin 6). This is the lead that the mainboard would signal on to tell the power board to turn on and then the voltages should all be there.
