Water Not Running in Machine - Makes a Humming Sound RESOLVED

We have replaced the inlet valves, the water modulator, the distribution motor, and the pump in the bottom. All to no avail it clicks then just hums no water runs in at all. We are at a loss. There is nothing wrong w the plug or water from the house. We had been getting the F21 error before we replaced all this. Also we cleaned the drain thing in the bottom. I have not seen anyone w this problem.

Update (05/24/2020)

Well folks turns out AFTER replacing our washer with another one we found out that the cold water spigot had quit working after untold numbers of years. The thing to consider is how

Hi @gdawson57 ,

Does this happen on both hot and cold wash cycles at least for the initial fill?

Have you checked the filter in the water inlet hoses to make sure that they're not blocked with grit, you didn't say?

You don't state the model number but usually the filter is located in the end of the hose fitting that connects to the machine but sometimes it is in the machine at the same connection point

Thanks for your reply.. Yes we've checked the filters. And yes it does that w both Hot and Cold water. It is a Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak 4. H3t

The Model of my Machine is Kenmore Elite Quiet Pak 4 110.46742 702. I looked up the part on Sears Direct and for my model it is not listed and we saw a video where a guy replaced one. We looked at our machine and there does not appear to have that part. It is nowhere visible. According to the video the Water Level Pressure Switch wouldn't stop water from flowing altogether.

And you were right I stated the incorrect name of the Flow Meter. That was also replaced.

Guessing I'll be calling in a Repair person.

Hi @gdawson57 ,

Not sure what you meant by water modulator. Did you mean the water inlet flowmeter - part #4 dispenser parts diagram? If not that may be worth looking at.

There is also the water level pressure switch - part #23 - top and cabinet diagram, but not sure if it were faulty that the symptoms would be what you’re experiencing with the machine.

Hi @gdawson57 ,

Please unaccept my answer as it did not work for you.

Here's a link to the possibilities of the cause of the problem in your washer.

I'm guessing with the actuator - part #10 dispenser parts diagram that it may be that it operates to allow a very small amount of water to pass through the flowmeter, before closing again which indicates to the control board that water is available and to open the water solenoids. (The flowmeter is part #4 in the dispenser parts diagram)

I'm only suggesting this is how it works as something similar happened with my dishwasher. It would not fill but in my case it was the flowmeter. I found out that the water inlet valve at the hose connection was opened for only a very brief time to allow just a very small amount of water in for the flowmeter to register that water is there for the solenoid to be re-opened until the dishwasher filled.

In your machine it may be the actuator that is used for this and then it is most probably used later as well, in conjunction with the flowmeter, to control the amount of water that is provided to the bleach and detergent dispenser

Good luck!
