Higher temperatures after reapplying thermal paste

Block Image

This is my test before reapplying the thermal paste. I was running League of Legends. There is a drop in the graph because I closed the game before I took the screenshot.

Here is my test after reapplying the thermal paste, running the same game.

I used Arctic Silver 5 and applied it using the cross method.

Applying thermal paste can be a bit tricky! Its one of the three bears types of problems! Too little or too much won’t work you need just the right amount.

At this point you’ll need to clean off the paste fully and apply it again. But lets get a picture so we can see how it looks after you lift the heat sink off and before you touch the paste. Post it here for us to see 기존 질문에 이미지 추가하기

You should also make sure you cleaned the fan and logic board of any dust buildup and make sure the two fans are working. I would install this app for that TG Pro It will also allow you to see the other thermal sensors in your system so you can make sure you don’t have other problems as well.

Thank you for the reply! I have edited my question by adding a picture of the thermal paste after lifting off the heatsink.

Just a bit on the heavy side on the CPU and the I/O chip. Clean the heat sink and the chip dies fully and you should also clean up the paste on the black cover as well on both chips. As I'm suspecting some of the paste might have gotten underneath as you over did the CPU & I/O dies.

After cleaning place a pea sized blob of thermal paste in the middle of the CPU and a much smaller blob on the I/O chip. You want the paste just to cover the dies not exceed the edges as you have done here. Doing so acts as a conduit for the heat within the heatsink to pass down to the chip body which you don't want.

There seems to be some thermal paste under the black tape around the CPU, what should I do about this? It is hard to clean.

The plate will need to be lifted to get to the paste. Be very careful as there are small SMD devices under it and the plate can be broken if you lift it while its still glued down. Us a small spatula to slowly lift the edge all the way around then go a bit deeper take your time! Acetone can help in releasing the glue. With the spatula in place tale a dropper or use a pair of tweezers to drip the solvent on the spatula to guide it into the area.

To clean the paste off get a rechargeable spray can which you can then load up with 85% or better isopropyl alcohol

This is what I use with a small oil-less air compressor True Power Rechargeable Sprayer
