Phone wet with hand sanitizer and after that it doesn't work.

Hand sanitizer leaked inside my bag.My phone was wearing a case so I used some paper to remove it from the bottom of the phone and everything after this seemed working normally except the sound got weaker and robotish. After a call the screen started having vertical lines and went blank. I couldn’t power off the phone, camera lit and couldn’t get in the menu.Video related: https://streamable.com/88c58m

I disassembled every part in order to check and clean the inside the device and it didn’t have any signs of the substance at all. I don’t know if it’s worth to fix it or not.

Hi @lagoman ,

The problem is that most hand sanitizers evaporate shortly after being applied and may not leave any trace but the damage may have occurred when it was still in a liquid form. All liquids have impurities that will create paths for the electricity that are not in the phone’s operating design and can cause damage to some extent and also can cause some form of corrosion to occur.

Even if the phone was switched off there is always power available at various points on the systemboard. The power button is not a power isolating button.

All you can try is to disconnect the battery and then dis-assemble the phone and clean everything again using Isopropyl Alcohol 99.9%+ (available from electronics parts stores). This includes removing any shields that are covering the cpu etc as there may be damage under them and also disconnecting any cables and cleaning the ends and the cable connectors.

You never know, after doing all this it may work correctly again.

Thank you so much for the answer @jayeff , so a detailed clean up on parts and components may resolve the matter and fix the devices behavior? Also as you suggest clean it with Isopropyl Alcohol. Should i let it bath on it or should i use cotton swabs?

@lagoman

I'm not a great fan of soaking in a bath as it "may" lift components if you're not careful and leave it for too long.

Gently wiping with IPA 99% is best. Also don't forget to remove shields etc and obviously the battery.

You can only try. At this stage you have nothing to lose and everything to gain

I have ordered Isopropyl Alcohol claimed 99.9% from the seller... so i will try it and see what is going to happen. Thanks again @jayeff.
