Do I need a new I/O board or a new battery to fix my problem!
Hello!
It’s my first time posting here but I figured this was the right place to ask. The battery on my retina 2015 MacBook Pro went into the ‘replace now’ status as I’ve had it a little while. It was only working when the charger was plugged in and the light stayed on orange and didn’t charge, as soon as the charger was removed the laptop would shut down.
I bought a brand new battery to hopefully get past this issue but now I’ve installed the brand new battery it still has the same status ‘replace now’ and only works on the charger. I was at a bit of a loss here as I wasn’t sure what the problem was, I checked out the new batteries health on Coconut Battery Health and the results are attached and say that the battery is totally healthy it just has 0 cycles. I tried an SMC reset and also I can’t calibrate it because it only works on the charger so I can’t drain the battery.
I then came across an article that said this is potentially an issue with the I/O board and not the battery at all. I don’t exactly know what the I/O board is but I know it’s responsible for the battery status so potentially replacing the I/O board will fix my issue and allow me to work again and actually use the laptop without the charger connected. Any other suggestions are ofc welcome if u think the issue is not either the battery or the I/O board. Thanks!
