1 Vertical bars at top of screen + right side unresponsive - RESOLVED
Hey gang. About a year ago, my GF dropped her iPhone SE in water, and her AppleCare replaced it with a '“new” iPhone SE 1st gen, whatever that means (probably refurbished?)
On this replacement SE, this morning after a call, the right half of the screen stopped responding to touch input. I also just noticed some vertical gray bars starting to appear on the very top of the screen (see attached image), mostly on the right half.
Does it seem like this could be JUST a bad connection between the screen’s flex connector and the logic board? Or does the presence of the vertical banding imply damage to the screen?

Do those bars seem to flicker and move vertically? If so, than a touch IC chip is damaged.
Also SE (gen 1) is the iphone SE in the 5s form factor, the new iPhone SE is basically the X guts in an i8 form factor. Apple’s naming conventions are stupid

@Charlie Yarbrough Thanks for your input! The bars don't seem to flicker nor are they moving in the vertical plane. They are quite static, regardless of what drawing is happening below them.

@r1223 seems to me that the screen assembly is damaged/separating. I’ve seen your exact issue from that. You’ll need a new display assembly (which is a pretty simple repair). Also check your battery from swelling. If you see the screen bowed out or if you push on the display towards the middle-left and see ripples (often accompanied by yellowish coloring) your battery has begun to swell and damaged the display.
It can also happen from drops or randomly becoming faulty later on, but with no physical damage, battery swelling is most likely imo

@Charlie Yarbrough The battery seems fine, I didn't notice any warping of the surface of the screen, and pressing on various parts of the screen doesn't produce any graphic artifacts or anything like that.
The phone is a warranty replacement phone that's a little under a year old so it's not an older battery.
I think my strategy here is to order the screen replacement kit & tools, and once I get it open, inspect the battery and hope it's not puffed out. If it is, I guess I'll put the project on hold and get a replacement battery as well!
