No boot after water damage

My cousin has a 2015 MacBook Pro with water damage. Not much else is known about the condition.

When plugged in, the MagSafe connector light turns Orange, The Force Touch trackpad is responsive and the logic board gets warm. However, nothing else happens (fan spinning, boot chime, backlight turning on, etc.)

I took the logic board, fan, and MagSafe port out of the computer to inspect for water damage. The only water damage apparent to me was a few watermarks on the fan.

While taking apart the MacBook, I noticed that several of the screws holding the rear panel down were missing. There was also an excessive amount of thermal paste on the processor, indicating that somebody had obviously been in there before me.

Anyway, long story short, the computer won’t turn on but shows signs of life. Any helpful tips would be much appreciated.

You’ll need to fully remove the logic board again to inspect the other side more carefully. Use a magnifier to check between the chip leads and look for staining. Clearly you’ll want to redo the thermal paste.

Are you able to diagnose micros-electronics? You’ll need a DVM access to the systems schematics and board views and have the skills to read them. Lastly have the needed tools to do micro soldering and access to the needed parts.

Given the age of the system it may need a new battery
