Display rubber gasket coming unstuck
Hi guys!
A small part of the rubber gasket around the display of my MacBook started to come unstuck. I can gently push it back and it will hold…for a while. But after that, it would unstick again. It’s only a small gap (1-2cm). So not a big deal. But I was wondering if there’s a way to stick it back permanently.
I could replace the whole thing, though I’m not sure where to buy good parts like these in the EU (iFixit doesn’t seem to have it either) aaand I don’t really feel like disassembling the whole thing just to replace the rubber ring around the display. To be honest, until today, I didn’t even know it’s made of two parts. I thought it’s only one big part. You can see a photo of the issue below.
So what would be your advice? Buying a new one? Fixing the current one? And if so, what would be the best approach to doing so?
I was thinking of using SuperGlue…but now I’m not so sure. For as far as I know, it tends to become hard (not really great for flexible stuff) and it can also damage the rubber. Not to mention it can very easily get onto the screen underneath which I really don’t want.
I was also thinking of maybe just adding a thin layer of glue (not necessarily SuperGlue, just some sort of glue, maybe one especially designed for rubber) on top of the two parts (once they’re in their “glued“ state) to seal the two parts together and hopefully prevent them from coming unstuck again. What do you guys think? What would be your advice?
Looking forward to reading your ideas/suggestions. :)
