How to fix WiFi cable

I have 3 WiFi cables of which 2 have bended plugs and one is decapitated. I have a broken screen assembly ready to take of its WLAN module (bar + cables) and mount it on this device but seems like that’s not possible with the retina models (as opposed to pre-retina).

Right now the options seem VERY unsettling:

  • Removing the plugs and mounting new ones
  • Stripping the wires and soldering them together with 3 good ones

What’s my easiest option?

You CAN splice the wires, but shielding will be needed. If you do not have experience in this department, it would be best to replace the entire piece, or bring it somewhere that does have the experience.

If you still have the connector you might be able to put it back on.

If you don’t have it, then you’ll need to replace the antenna assembly, and no, you can’t splice the cable!

You’ll need to take the display assembly off, sliding the black clutch cover off to expose the antenna unit taking it off with the hinge replacing with a fresh unit MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Display Assembly Replacement

Dan the man! Are you sure about it? I can't seem to get the antenna unit off like the pre-retina models. I can unscrew it yes, but the isight cable goes through the same hinge cylinder thus locking the antenna unit + cables to it.

@faloude - Take a look at this MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown to get an idea on how much work it is replacing the the antenna assembly. Pushing through the single cable is what I tend to do which is still a bit of work.

Holy smokes. I'm definitely not taking this route :D is there a reason I can't splice the cables?

Again, I often just push through the single wire through the hinge. It's not as hard as it sounds.Desoldering

As to splicing cables: Coax wire is not like other wires, it's a shielded pathway. You need to maintain the shield 360 degree's and the center wire needs an end point interface --- s --- not parallel like you do AC outlet wires ===== with a twist cap. Think of it like fiber optic cable the light needs to travel through. Then the insulation needs to have the proper dielectric impedance as well.

So, can you push the iSight/FaceTime connector through the hinge then? I have a donor screen and looking to replace the WIFI and Bluetooth wiring due to broken connectors…
