Clicking noise inside a Gigabyte Aero 15x v8 laptop when plugged in

Noticeable clicking and buzzing sound from inside of the laptop. When unplugged noise stops. It is not fans, nor disk, I have an SSD.

As far as I can tell it does not affect performance, but when it is quiet — sound drives me crazy. Is there something I can do about it?

I found what makes noises:

Looks like some power module and the coils (transformers?) makes the noise.

Another thing I noticed that sometimes clicking gets louder when the picture on the screen changes. But it is not consistent.

UPDATE:

Just found out that after unplugging or plugging the power adapter all is quiet but in a few minutes noises come back. It doesn't matter whether system runs on battery or adapter.

Hi @nequus,

The laptop has two fans how did you check that the noise is not from one of them?

Does the clicking stop when inserting headphones?

@jayeff I stopped both fans with a utility. Noise doesn't stop when I insert headphones. In addition to that noise stops immediately when I unplug so its not mechanical sound from blades hitting something.

Hi @nequus

You say it stops when you "unplug" so presumably it doesn't occur when on the battery only, is this correct?

If it only occurs when on the adapter then there may be a problem in the power supply circuits.

Can you try a different compatible power adapter at all?

@jayeff Just found out that after unplugging or plugging the power adapter all is quiet but in a few minutes noises come back. It doesn't matter whether system runs on battery or adapter.

Just to add: I visually made sure that both fans are stopped and noises still continue.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare power adapter.

@nequus

Buzzing can occur with a bad connection, dry joint, loose connection etc but clicking is strange if it is rhythmical and not random. Random clicks could mean heat i.e. expansion of metal etc

You may have to open it up and check if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from

That is what SD cards do as they work. You can switch it back to a quieter hard drive if that feature is a real problem.

I do not have a SD card in a computer, if you mean SSD It's also not the case since they are located on the opposite side of the laptop (from where the noise is coming).
