Water won't stop filling basin on Kenmore Model 110 (80 series) washer

Help!

My parents’ Kenmore Model 110 (80 series) washing machine won’t stop filling the basin with water. I unplugged it and the water continued to run. Is this a defective water inlet valve or could it be something else, like the water level switch. I read on partselect.com about it/them.

I disconnected the washing machine completely, pulled it out (ripping the linoleum), and looked at the back panel — there are a few screws at the bottom, a screw near the hoses, a some plastic clips here and there. I’m stuck on how to proceed. How do I remove the back panel (assuming it can be removed) or do I remove the front to access?

I have tools to do the job (and a li’l bit of know how) but cannot find my particular answer on removal of panel(s) for this Model 110 (80 series).

Also, trustworthy and competent handymen are far and few since the coal mines closed here in West Virginia. So, if I can do it, I’ll do it myself.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi @steves2020,

If your Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine is not draining after a wash cycle, see the Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine Won’t Drain problem page for possible causes and solutions.

What is the full model number of the washer?

You could prove which water inlet valve may have been the problem by connecting both the hot and cold hoses to the machine and then turning the water off on one at a time to see if the water stopped leaking into tub.

If it did stop when one of the supply taps was closed then at least you know which one to look at and maybe to change.

If you go to partselect.com and search for the full model number then usually in there when you get the parts for that machine and find the water inlet valve part and click on it there is sometimes a video that shows how to install it which should help you.

Another thing to check if the valve is faulty is if the mesh filters located in the end of the supply hoses that connect to the machine are OK and not damaged or broken. If they are, it allows any grit that may be in the water supply (it happens) to enter the machine and to possibly get lodged in the valve seat preventing it from fully closing. Unfortunately water inlet valves cannot be repaired, they have to be replaced.

Hi @steves2020

here's the valve part with the video, taken from this parts page for the model. It also shows the hose screen filter that I mentioned.

Here's the full parts list for the model.

Unfortunately it appears that the valves come as a combined set of two (hot and cold) and cannot be replaced individually

You might want to try another supplier as the parts seem cheaper from this supplier and also there are parts diagrams showing the location of all the parts. Just a thought.

Cheers.

Thanks, Jayeff!

I'll just order the part.
