DSI V1.2E doesn't work with R4i card

I recently started playing on my old Nintendo DSi again, but the r4i card had not been working for a really long time, so I decided to try and reset it. I formatted the card and downloaded the software that r4i-sdhc.com said I had to download. However, I keep getting stuck on the same page where it says ‘menu?’ on a white screen. I have tried several firmwares but none seem to work. Furthermore, my Nintendo DSi has not been updated to v1.4 and is still 1.2 and the r4 card is the r4i sdhc type. How can I solve this issue?
