I want to upgrade SSD for iMac 5k 2017 27 inch, i want to upgrade samsung 970 evo SSD, is it compatible?

I asked a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus PCIe NVMe SSD but they said it couldn't be plugged in.

Consider the amount of work as well as what your current system has already present. A Fusion drive’d system will have both drives present.

Can i replace it with samsung PCIe? Because if the Sata drive speed will be worse. Thanks

There is two aspects here: Yes you can do it using an adapter. But! given how far you need to dig in to get to it and the issue of stability of the M.2 and adapter solution its just not wise.

There was a point I was seeing one of these converted mac's every month only to tell the owner the drive had failed and I need to replace it with something better.

So, I personally don't recommend them, I would stick with either the custom Apple SSD or I would go with the OWC SSD.

If you had a MacBook Pro I would be more willing to go with the M.2 & adapter its at least easer to get to!

FYI: I love the Samsung SSD's most of the issue is in Apple's signaling system is unique and the adapters quality.

@duyjapan - Yes! Its a bit confusing! Apple contracted Samsung to make the custom drives.

The proprietary Apple NVMe/PCIe 3.0 x4 interface SSD you have linked ones not need any adapters.

It's a very good SSD for your system!
