I opened up my phone to do a battery replacement. This went quite well In every way, except for the fact that my home button no longer works. I get an alert that says “touch ID cannot be activated on this iPhone”, and the button just simply stopped working. I’ve looked for tears in the ribbon cables, checked all of the connections, and tried hard resetting etc.
What do I do???

It will defiantly be a tear in the flex cable. These are very hard to see unless you have good magnification. The tear usually occurs on the 90 degree bend.
You will need to purchase another screen.
