No picture on screen after replacement

Hey guys, I’ve replaced my cracked screen with new screen replacement unit, plugged it in before sealing ipad back together and turned on, the screen was showing everything fine but touch wasn’t working (possibly didn’t plug the cable correctly). Since I wasn’t able to turn it off as touch was not responding I unscrewed the battery and lifted the motherboard a bit to cut the power, that was the only way to turn it on I could think of at the time.

I unplugged the screen cables and plugged them back in this time correctly and attempted another test. This time the screen had no picture anymore but the touch is still working since this time i was able to blindly navigate myself and turn it off.

My question is have I blown the screen now by unplugging the battery when ipad was on? Or maybe is there something I can do to get it back? Also for future reference how do i turn off the ipad when touch is not working?

Isolating the battery is the proper way to shutdown a device when no other method is available. It is also important to do this whenever disconnecting, or more importantly, connecting the LCD.

No touch when connecting a screen is usually just an improperly seated connector. Check the condition of the connectors, on both the logic board and the screen to insure they weren’t damaged. The screen artifacts you see are either a bad screen or an improperly connected one.

If the original, presumably cracked screen still works, try connecting it to see if the problem goes away.

New screen was fine before but there was no touch, now the touch is back but screen is as seen on pictures. Old screen was completely smashed up so can't check that. What would indicate damaged connector? They seem ok on first glance.

Try hard resetting the iPad? The question says you have a 2nd gen Air but you have Touch ID so that cannot be. Use the model number from the back of your device and look up the hard reset procedure. (Hard resetting does not wipe the device, just in case you did not know) The hard reset procedure for newer devices is usually something like holding down the volume down and the power buttons, but it may be specific to your model so check just in case…
