Using Ifixit portable esd mat with no live ground (ac involved).
I bought the ifixit portable esd mat because I’m doing a logic board replacement in my macbook, and it will take me hours because I’m a rookie and it’s not the easiest mod, first time using esd equipment, the strap goes on my wrist and the mat, the ground cable goes to the mat and… everywhere I read keeps saying a live ground, like the ac panel, or even a ground adapter is best.
My house was built 60 years and from what I know it a was semi amateur job, I have no idea how the guy wired it and don’t want to find out. In the instruction video the woman says clip the ground cable to the table leg, which is metal, but has nothing to do with outlets, I have this thing I can clip to, very close to me holding up a shelf, very metal, it’s not on the physical ground though.

I also have a folding chair with metal legs on the physical ground (but it’s carpet).
Will this achieve anything or did I waste money on the mat?
