Tv wont turn on no standby light, clicking sound on power board

Samsung model un55mu6290f had power outage and now tv wont turn on. i tested the volts coming out of the power board to the display board and everything looked good, fuse is good, capacitors look good. but when it is plugged in to each other there is little ticking sound. not sure if that is why its not turning on.. but if it can be fixed that would be great! any insight helps!!! thank you!!!!

Thank you @jayeff for your insight! Yeah i couldnt quite find out where on the power board the clicking was coming from but since it was an overvoltage and the circuit breaker did not open im guessing it just fried this part? So yeah Im prob gonna go ahead with you and say its the power board and just buy a new one to replace it and hope it works! Thank you for your help!!!!

Hi @renegadesoffun ,

Just verifying that if the power board is a BN44-00807K and that when the power is connected to the TV with everything connected that there is 11.8V on the Standbypower test point, (see image) is this correct?

If so then this voltage is what is used by the mainboard to turn the Standby Power LED on .i.e. the mainboard turns the LED on/off. It is not turned on directly from the power board.

Try the following:

Disconnect the power from the TV and then disconnect the cable between the mainboard and the power board at the power board.

Reconnect the power to the TV.

The TV backlights should turn full on intensity and stay on. There will be no picture because the mainboard has been disconnected.

When the mainboard is disconnected and the power is applied to the TV the power board is turned on to full power output because the signal from the mainboard that keeps the power board in standby mode, until told otherwise has been removed.

You can then check the voltages from the power board to see if they are OK knowing that the mainboard is not causing any interference with the power board.

Just trying to eliminate where the problem may be.

Thank you for your help! Yeah so the power board is BN44-00807A and I found the stb/on and it looks like on this board stand by should be 8 v and on is 13 v

I tested it and at stand by is 9.06 v

Then i did the unplug from main board test and the backlight is on when unplugged.

Then testing the pins from the connector it looks like

(2) ANA DIm 3.26v

(4) OD On/Off 3.64v

(6) PWM Blue 3.14v

(8) Power on 4.53v

(10) Grnd 0v

(12) Grnd 0v

(1) Fail count .03v

(3) A134 12.95v

(5) A134 12.95v

(7) A134 12.95v

(9) A134 12.95v

(11) Grnd 0v

I also uploaded a new video doing the backlight test and showing more of ticking sound from the power board and couple pics of the board. Thanks for helping me diagnose it! I really appreciate it!

@renegadesoffun

The standby voltage is a little high I think but I don't know what the tolerances are for it.

Not sure what the voltages on pins 2, 4, 6 and 8 are supposed to be but the other pins seem about right.

Also in your video are you saying that the clicking sound is coming from component CX8015? I can't hear what you're saying too well.

If so usually a CX component is an Class X capacitor When a Class-X capacitor, also referred to as an "across the line capacitor"—the capacitor placed between line and neutral—fails because of an overvoltage event, it is likely to fail as a short circuit. This failure, in turn, should cause an overcurrent protective device, like a fuse or circuit breaker, to open. but maybe it didn't.

It's looking like the power board although without a schematic it may be hard to work out (at least for me anyway) what is the problem.

I have a Samsung LA40BDX/XSA it starting having problens turning on. It had the clicking noise that gradually became more lengthy before it would eventually Turn on. Now it will not turn on at all. From researching the internet possible cause is faulty power board and or main board. With main board it can have eprom ic that needs replacement. I will disconnect the main board connection (as in post above at the power board ) and see if the back light cones on. Summary of both main and power boards are both replaced (cheap now around $30)problem will be fixed. Replacing just power board has a good chance of fixing the problem (TV not turning on having clicking noise (relay on power board
