Intermittently works but won’t drill

I was using my LDX220 black and decker and it was struggling mid use, while drilling a hole in wood. I would reverse and go forward again. Then the drill wouldn’t move either way. However, it did go in reverse. Now, it won’t always work in either direction. When I tried using it again to drill it just stopped as soon as it met resistance. The F/R actuator looks new. There is nothing loose , the light still goes on, battery is charged. The cables look good. Is it possibly the on and off switch itself? What am I missing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
