My phone thinks the down volume button is pressed

I own a xiaomi red mi note 8.

I was listening to music normal and it started lowering the volume by itself. I tried to get the volume higher a few times (pressing the up volume button or using the screen) but it kept going all the way down.

So i turned it off and cleaned it a little bit just in case something was bothering the button from the outside, or if the system was stuck. Then when I opened it and it still thought that the down button was pressed so it sent me to fast boot. Somehow I managed to boot it properly and now it seems to be okay, but i think it will happen again.

Is it a hardware or a software error? if there’s nothing I can do about it I might need to buy a new one.

This is what's happening to my phone now. It's Redmi note 7 btw. :/

I start to think that I need to switch to another brand. Xiaomi sucks :’(

It’s the second time this happens to me. The first it just went away in a matter of hours but now it’s really irritating me. It won’t go away. The Google Assistant fix doesn’t work for me either, ugh!!!! I can’t live without music and videos so this is annoying

I know it's late for answer but i was having the same issue and i hit sound up/down button to table 2-3 times and it fixed :D

Yeah, that worked for me too. Even my phone entered fast boot mode multiple times and the volume went all the way down to zero on its own.

I thought it was a software bug and soon had made my mind to install custom rom or so. Hitting the button (gently) literally solved the problem! Thanks!

I had the same mobile but different issue. It was fingerprint issue so I replaced it with Fingerprint cable, then it starting working as normal.

I don't think it's a software problem. I was having the same issue, and I managed to turn my phone off, but it would go into fastboot mode, which is triggered by holding the volume down + power. So this makes me think it is a hardware issue. I did what Mustafa commented and now my phone is working.

For people who has this issue and hitting table doesn't work, i found an app named 'buttons remapper & combinatin' by 'Irishin'. You should download it, then give permission and then click + button in app, choose the button with the problem for me it is 'volume +', choose 'do nothing' for the action and enable 'block system action'. From now on my volume up button is not sensing anything. For increasing volume , i will use volume down button to see the volume window on screen then will use touchscreen to turn the volume on.

I had the problem there i smacked the phone on my bed and i was hitting my phone without any reason then i found it was a software problem. After knowing it i started searching for a genuine solution but i didn’t find any but after a lot of reaserch i just solved my problem by reboot.

I had the same thing. Just smash the volume button it 3 times at the table and it will be fixed

This isn't a software bug (for my case). I found out that even the slightest touch to the volume button will trigger the problem where the volume down is stuck

I got a xiaomi redmi note 8. And today I experienced the same thing and it started when I was playing league of legends: wild rift and it becomes a hindrance in my game as it blocks the buttons I use to play the game. If you want a visualization; the volume always appear in the screen, every second so it doesn't go away. I tried restarting the device but the options to "airplane mode";"silent mode";"restart";"shutdown" don't appear. So, I long press and the device shuts down. Then when I try to open it go to Fast Boot. I tried doing what Mustafa said and in addition tried to clean the earphone slot with cotton buds with 99% alcohol. After that my phone goes back to normal. (I already have pried open the back of my device to try to fix the buttons itself but don't know how to get into the buttons itself.) Hope this helps the others before they pry open their device.

the same thing happened to me while I was playing League of Legends: Wild Rift, and it started blocking the buttons I need to play the game, which is a hassle. If you desire a visual representation, same as contador de palabras the volume will constantly show on the screen, updating every second. I attempted to reset the gadget, but the "aeroplane mode" and "quiet mode"

I have the same thing on my xiaomi redmi note 8 pro and because of this issue, i cannot exit the Fastboot mode. I have to know how to fix this problem else i cant use my phone. Did you figure out how to solve it?

Mine right now has that same concern and maybe it's my volume buttons that has the problem because eve if I slightly touch it or just barely, it turns up. Now I'm looking how to disable this button or find who can repair this
