Broke tiny bottom connector that holds the trackpad ribbon

I accidentally broke the tiny connector that holds the trackpad/keyboard ribbon in the bottom. Now my MacBook won’t powerup. I was trying to replace the trackpad ribbon. can you please advise what that part is called? and how I can fix/replace it? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

The cable slides in and there is a small black connector that clamps down..

You can use kapton tape to hold the cable in place instead.

Thanks Ryan! Really appreciate your kind responses. My mac stopped booting up or charging after this broke up, is this normal? it didn't make sense to me.

No problem. That does seem odd.

Just to clarify only the ZIF Connector broke right? That's the flap that you flip up/down that holds the flex cable in place.

The ZIF connector shouldn't have any bearing on the Mac booting up as far as I know. Did you disconnect the battery before replacing the cable?

Yes that is what is broken. I didnt disconnect the battery.

Ryan, is there a way to revive my mac? I think i understand now what I messed up.

Sadly, I think your best bet is to just replace the trackpad MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Early 2015) Trackpad

@danj Thanks Dan. I realized that the main problem why my mac is not booting up is because i didnt disconnect battery before changing cable. My bad. Is there any way to come out of this?

Well, just because you forgot to disconnect the battery doesn't mean that is the cause of your computer not booting now.

For giggles you can try a SMC reset. Dan may be right though in that you may have to replace the Trackpad and that is a bugger of a repair.

How to reset SMC:

1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down and wait for your Mac to shut down.

Press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds. If you have a MacBook Pro with Touch ID, the Touch ID button is also the power button.

2. Release all keys.

3. Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

I broke this connector also by snapping off the little plastic black thing on the back that you are supposed to lift up to latch and unlatch. The connector is a zif or zero insertion force connector. I'm not sure what specific type this is as there are many different types of zif connectors. I broke mine in the closed position and then accidentally pulled the cable out while replacing my battery 😞. Can't get it back in because I can't unlatch (or relatch obviously).

I'm guessing that you will need to replace the whole track board controller board to fix this issue.

Not sure about your power on issue. Mine powers on but my keyboard and track pad don't work. Not sure if the keyboard not working is for the same reason or if I messed up my keyboard cable as well during the battery replacement.

If anyone has any incites let me know.

Well, I have this exact model, it's got it's own issues but it works. (Overheating to 104C 219F)

Now, I haven't messed around much with my device but, does it appear that the connector port is soldered onto the board? If so it may be possible to un-solder it and replace just that piece. This may mean that you may need to find someone to do it for you if you aren't familiar with soldering.

Another quick thing to rule out: If you plug in a keyboard and mouse via USB, do they work? If so then this means that yes, it's the connector, but if not, then there might be a bigger issue.

But yes, it will most likely be easier to just replace it, as, soldering is a delicate thing, and if you ask me, I would rather just replace it then risk making it worse. :)
