How to know when I should replace the entire lid or just the lcd?

My laptop screen have vertical lines and black blotch after my son punch it. It does have a punch mark crack but not sure if the lcd broke or not. How to know if i need to change the whole top lid or just the glass/lcd?

The black spot is telling us the LCD its self is damaged. Time to replace the full display MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 디스플레이 교체
