Aspire E15 E5-511 after surgery, neither keyboard nor touchpad work
So… In trying to trace a problem with charging (which i fixed!), i managed to mess up at least one of those horrid ribbon cable connectors (i believe) because, as the title states, the keyboard and touch-pad no longer function and the three ribbon cables are the only things i can think of offhand that i probably messed up on.
I know for certain that i messed up with the smaller cable that is close to the front of the computer, by memory, roughly close to where the hard drive is and the USB ribbon connects, and i am fairly certain is for the touch-pad. I broke the locking tab completely off that thing and i believe damaged one side of the base. I was able to guide the cable i where it seemed to fit properly and then pushed the tab in between the cable and the upper wires that, i suspect, are for applying pressure.
I had issue with the largest connector towards the back in that i broke the locking tab loose, but i was able to fairly accurately position the cable which seemed properly seated, and slide the locking tab back into place, which secured the cable properly. I suspect this one is the keyboard cable.
I can’t recall much trouble with the small one to the left with the flip-up tab, that one seemed to go as painlessly as could be when considering they gave us the space that perhaps only an elf or small monkey could efficiently fit their hands in to work.
If it is a clue as to what is good, the power switch works fine.
I attached both a USB mouse and keyboard which are working fine, but if i could restore natural communication between the top assembly and the MB I would be happier.
Many thanks for your thoughts!
