I spilled 5-7 mL's of milk on the left side of my keyboard

Hi!

So basically around 10:00 AM this morning, I was drinking some milk and spilled a small amount after I had finished drinking it on the left side of my keyboard. I quickly tilted the keyboard towards me so a good majority of it flowed out, then started aggressively drying it with paper towels. These keys affected are Q, A, Z, left cmd, left option, ctrl, fn, and left shift. I’ve tested all of the keys and they all work fine. In fact, I’m typing this out from the same computer. Anyway, after around 5 minutes of anxious internet browsing, I turned the computer off and popped the keycaps off to see if there was any sign of liquid being there/under there. And there wasn’t. Again, everything works fine, I’ve left it out by a very strong fan for around 45 minutes, used compressed air on the keys, and it works. Even after I had spilled it nothing shut itself down, nor did I see anything happen visually. I’m quite worried about corrosion and the pricing of repair. I bought this at the very end of November and I do have Apple Care +. However, liquid damage seems to void any warranty. Are there are any other steps I should take to address this issue? Again, everything is working fine, I’ve also stupidly charged it since then because I had classes. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

I have spilled various liquids on several of my Macbook Pro’s more times than I can count. I never once (thankfully) ran into any issues because of it. It sounds like you took all the correct steps in making sure the liquid did not soak in any further, or, at the very least, cause an issue with keys sticking (I’ve had that happen several times, and its a pain!).

I personally would not worry, I think everything will be fine in regards to your keyboard.

Same happened to me on 19 feb, but I took it to my local apple repair shop and they cleaned it for me, and I suggest you do it as soon as possible, but they refused to clean the keyboard and said I had to completely replace it. The keyboard is working fine but the keys are getting stuck so I am cleaning it on my own. I think yours will also get stuck nice the liquid dries out. So don’t panic and go to YouTube and search for Tutorials on how to clean your keyboard. It’s going to take some time to clean the keys individually but it’s still better than replacing the whole keyboard.

Just for future reference Apple Care Plus will cover any accidental damage. They would charge a maximum of $299 Service fee, Likely would replace your MacBook with a refurbed one but would be best since liquid damage can affect multiple parts that add up when replacing. Hope your MacBook survived and serves you for many years to come.
