Touchscreen unresponsive after unplugging proximity sensor

Hi, I recently was stuck in a boot loop with error 4013 and saw online that it could be the proximity sensor. I opened up my iPhone XS, unplugged the sensor, and my iPhone could finally boot up. However, now my touch screen isn’t responding, and I’ve tried unplugging and replugging the other sensors. Do I need to replace the screen?

Unfortunately it sounds like the digitizer may have been damaged if none of the other connectors or sensors return function to the device when unplugged/plugged. You could try hard resetting the device to see if that helps but if not, it’s likely the screen that needs to be replaced.

Does the phone boot normally now with the proximity sensor plugged in or will that cause it to boot loop again?

I've tried hard resetting, but unfortunately that didn't solve the issue. If I replug back in the proximity sensor, it throws the phone back into a boot loop. With the proximity sensor unplugged, I can boot the phone up normally, but the touchscreen functionality is no longer working. I was so careful taking apart the phone, but unfortunately I'm thinking possibly the digitizer may have been damaged too. Good to have a second opinion. I'm going to try replacing the screen (and proximity sensor too); hopefully that solves my issues. Wish me luck, and thanks for the response!

@Sarah Yeah replacing both the screen and proximity sensor should correct this but I'd be interested to see if a new proximity sensor and earpiece assembly would fix this without needing to replace the screen. Might be worth a try but if not then the screen replacement as well would resolve this for sure. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I attempted replacing both the proximity sensor and the screen, but I am still getting the same issue that the touch screen is not working. I am wondering if I have the sensors seated/connected properly (they are a bit fiddly), but I don't want to press on them too hard because I don't want to damage the pins. Any other ideas?

@Sarah You should be able to press firmly onto the connectors until they don't wiggle around and are seated properly. Are you able to boot the phone with the screen open? Try unplugging/plugging proximity sensor to see if screen comes on?

I didn't realize that the plate covering the connectors had to be on for the touch functionality to work. Once I did that, everything worked appropriately (I was testing without the plate being on). Thanks for the support!
