iPhone XR Dead, but Boot Loops on Charger? Dies when unplugged.

I just did a back glass replacement on an iPhone XR. Everything seemed to go fine. It displayed a red battery sign last night saying it was dead, so I charged it for a bit and it never came back on, but after reseting it it went into recovery mode. When I unplugged it to connect to a computer, it died. When I return it to the charger it starts looping the Apple logo again (about 5 seconds off, 2-3 seconds on, repeat). It only stops if I act like I”m reseting it, then it will enter recovery mode.

It is not recognized, nor starts to charge when connected to a computer.

Hey Bradley, did you end up fixing your phone yet? I ran into a similar problem. I changed my screen a month ago, and now all of the sudden it will only run connected to a charger... And just for a while before starting the Apple logo loop again. I changed the battery today, but no joy. I suppose is worth noting that when I unplug the charger, the phones dies instantly. Any ideas?

@bboyce2009 Double check your work and check the components around the battery connector, see if you accidentally knocked something off. I would also replace the battery. Yes, could be incidentally but that way you will at least have a known-well starting point. @imicrosoldering is the most likely person to get your phone back to work.

Do you know of common connections that can cause this? Just ran int this problem last night (Worked on my phone a month ago...) Don't know where to start, but it seems like a loose connection as the phone dies instantly as I remove the charge cable.

@Richard Leach you do have a new battery on this?

@oldturkey03 is right about a new battery. In situations like this we completely rule out a parts issue, to do this we would install the logic board into a known good housing with known good screen and battery.

If you haven’t got another housing you will need to disconnect all the flexes except battery, screen and charge port, check results and go from there. If your phone is paired to your PC or Mac you can also disconnect the screen so as only the battery and charge port are connected and see if it is recognised.

If you removed the logic board while replacing the glass it will most likely be a parts problem.

@imicrosoldering I went through the back the “easy” way by warming the glue and removing things piece by piece. I was careful around edges and don’t think I hit anything, but wasn’t sure if perhaps the warming of the adhesive could’ve ruined the battery or some other component? I may start with replacing the battery and go from there to see what happens.

hi, so what happens next did you change the batterie ?

I have run into this issue with a lot of iPhone's e.g. 7+, 8+, X, Xr, etc. I read somewhere this is the bootloader failing a 'self-test' so it just loops. This always works for me ****beware this will completely wipe any data***** Anyways if you put your phone in DFU mode [plug phone into mac or pc(any computer with iTunes) press/release volume up, then press/release volume down, then press/hold power, keep holding power through the apple logo, once the 'connect to iTunes' screen appears then you can release the power button]. The iTunes program will alert you that a phone needs to upgraded or restored. Select restore and follow the onscreen instructions.

the best thing to do in this situation would be to erase the phone. if you have an iCloud backup you can redownload your data after. and then follow the instructions on the apple website for resetting your phone.

if It is an issue with the battery, buy the iFixit replacement kit and replace it. this might solve the problem.

I hope this helps.
