How is the CPU fixed on the motherboard?

Hi guys,

I'll soon upgrade my old iMac 20' 2008 CPU from an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz E8335 to an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz E8435.

As I don't know what to do with the old CPU, I'd like to know if I could upgrade a macbook unibody 2008 13' 2.44GHz P8660 with it. My two questions are :

- Is the macbook CPU soldered or socketed as in the iMac ?

- Is the E8335 compatible ? Seems to be the same socket according to CPU-World but I don't know what the other specs mean ?

Thanks

As far as I know, the two CPU's are not cross-compatible. The CPU on the MacBook is soldered to the logic board and it is not recommended to try and replace it.

Oh ok, what would you do personally with the old CPU then ? Sell it (and how much ?) or keep it just in case ?

You can try and sell the CPU on craiglist or eBay. I'm not sure how much they go for.

The CPU on these machines is attached to the logicboard with a ball grid array (BGA). It's beyond the scope of a home workshop to desolder/solder them.
