Best way to maximise the benefit of my Samsung SSD SATA III HD?

I've just received my Samsung 860 PRO 2 TB SATA III 2.5 Inch Internal SSD, which I was intending to install in my 2011 MacBook Pro (15").

However, I've read that SATA III SSDs cause problems with older Macs because they're too fast.

I've read a few similar Qs on here, but still not quite sure what my next course of action should be. Bit upset I hadn't seen the info regarding compatibility between older MBPs and SATA III SSDs before I bought mine.

I'd like to know, 1) Is it as simple as buying/installing a new internal HD cable for my Mac?

2) Is there a way to downgrade the SSD to SATA II?

OR

3) Should I just seek out an older SATA II SSD as it's not worth the risk of attempting to install the SATA III one I have?

Any advice/guidance would be much appreciated.

Thankyou.

Well to start with I'm banging on a 15" MacBook Pro with a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB. While its an older version it too is a SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drive. So I can tell you your good here!

But.... There is a dark side that you could be facing as the 2011 models had issues with the HD SATA cable! Between the first system only had a SATA II HDD drive installed which didn't push the data through the cable at a high enough rate to be a problem. When Apple updated the drive to a SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) it also upgraded the systems firmware to enable the SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) services. But even then the newer drive just didn't push the data throughput to hard except when upgrading the OS. Then we started seeing issues! Apple quietly upgraded the SATA cable to one that could handle to higher throughput without errors.

But no sooner did they do that they faced a quality issue with some of the cables! And to add to it some people also killed the cable over doing the bending where the cable needs to bend around. Think of it this way you fold a sheet of paper and lightly pressed on the fold at most you get a slight visible crease if you try tearing it along that crease it likely won't tear. Now fold that sheet again now pull your finger nail across the fold so you have a hard crease, bit difference now!

Here we have a similar issue! People would create a hard crease at the point the cable needs to bend but in doing so they damage the thin foil wires within the cable! So there is what we can a disturber in the signal.

Fun fact! you can see this issue using a Time Domain Reflectometer to see this disturber issue

So it's important not to crease the cable only curl it. Here's more on the issues Your Hard Drive Cable Is A Ticking Time Bomb So its important to make sure you are using the newer version of the cable MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2009-Late 2011) Hard Drive Cable And follow this guide MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2011 Hard Drive/IR Sensor Cable Replacement
