Impossible to power on a second time after a motherboard replacement

Hello there!
People I need your help,

Few months ago, my macbook pro suddenly blacked screen while I was working. After plugging in the charger, I couldn't boot it up again...

I contacted the apple support which tried to make me perform a bunch of actions like reset SMC and blablabla. Nothing could work.

Then, I brought it to an apple reseller for a diagnostic and they told that the motherboard must be dead. So I bought a new motherboard, something compatible with my macbook of course.

I just received it and after swapping the motherboard, I heard the chimes that I was missing so much and finally could log into macOS. Hurray!!!

Wait... no so fast:

I just left the mac like that for about an hour and once I came back, impossible to wake it up. Really??

Seriously, I'm out of ideas now. What could possibly cause that issue?

Here are some info worth to know:

  • the original motherboard is a 2.6ghz 16GB (from 2014)
  • the new motherboard is a 2.4ghz 16GB from a macbook of 2013
  • my keyboard and touchpad work, I managed to log in macOS after the motherboard swap
  • If I plug the charger, the led is amber
  • If I perform an SMC, the led goes to green for a few seconds
  • If I unplug the battery, the mac won't power on either

Thank you very much for any help

EDIT: battery report added

Lets do this, disconnect the battery, now with the battery disconnected press and hold the power button to fully discharge the logic board (a good 15 secs). Now carefully place your system on its side so the MagSafe port is up and plug in the charger your system should spontaneously start up! Let it finish booting and shut it down properly. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe charger as soon as it starts up again download and run this this gem of an app! Thank you for your answer.

I disconnected the battery, held the power button for 15 secs. But after plugging the MagSafe, the system did not start. Even by pressing the power button. Also, the fan won't spin

Hey Mickael,

Have you tried a different boot drive (Probably not going to help). Also have you checked voltages across the board as that will determine what is causing it.

After plugging in magsafe what colour LED comes up?

@np_f1_2021

I don't have any other compatible SSD, unfortunately...

About the voltage checkup, it seems like a good idea but I've got no skills in doing that so I don't know what to expect from the readings. Is there a tutorial somewhere?

After plugging in the magsafe, the LED is green for a brief moment and then turns amber.

@np_f1_2021 - Not good ;-{ When you plugged in the MagSafe with the battery disconnected was the MagSafe cord LED lit? Amber or Green.

If it was this is sounding like a deeper logic board issue. Time to pull and inspect your logic board MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014 Logic Board Replacement look for a burnt component and/or corrosion/staining on both sides.

If it wasn't lit I would replace the MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Early 2015) MagSafe 2 DC-In Board following this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014 MagSafe DC-In Board Replacement

@danj plugging in the magsafe with or without the battery connected gives the same result: LED green for a brief moment and then turns amber.

-- Just to make sure, the battery connector is the biggest one with a big warning on it, right? (EDIT: yes it is)

Regarding the logic board, please note that as stated in the OP, I just changed it yesterday. Besides the first successful boot up, the macbook now behaves exactly the same with both logic boards.

Unless another component damages the logic board, I don't see how both logic boards could have the same issue. And what would be the odds of having 2 logic boards HS? The new one was sent from a Chinese store which certifies tests successfully passed before shipping. I believe them since I managed to boot up once.
