GPU firmware flash for upgrade...

Hey all,

I have an early 2008 iMac that originally came with 2.4GHz with EMC #2210

My iMac came with a 2400XT originally and I went and bought a 2600 PRO (not XT!)

It doesn't plug and play (first 2 diagnostic LEDs on startup only) so I've put the old one back.

I hear people talking about flashing firmware etc so now that I have the 2600 PRO sitting here, can I flash it or can I flash my iMac to make the thing work?

I have the 2600 PRO firmware on USB (it's a 128kb .bin.zip file). I'm happy to buy extra hardware if needed or whatever, I just really want to make it work.

So How is flashing done? If it can make the 2600 PRO work in my iMac, can it make other MXM cards work too?

Thanks in advance.

would it perhaps be easier to get a 2600XT? Would that particular card be plug and play? (given that it was a factory option?)

What I'm aiming for is a little more texture and FPS in gaming. I'm a COD4 player and would like to bump up my in-game resolution while maintaining about 125FPS (which is what I'm currently getting on the lowest resolution and texture setting)

An Apple isn't a gaming machine.

As ABCellars said, they're not gaming machines. Anyway, the iMac's have 60Hz LCD screens, which means they can only physically display up to 60FPS.
