MacBook Air Mid 2013 won't power on

Hi all,

I may have jumped the gun when purchasing a new battery. So I was having this same issue before and after battery replacement of my laptop.

When I press the power button to turn the laptop on, I hear a little sound from I assume the fan which was the sound it always made for years when turning on. The issue being is nothing happens after that. I do not see anything on the screen and it does not look like it power on at all. Almost every time I press the power button I hear the same sound I mentioned above.

I am able to charge the device and the LED on the charger still changes colors accordingly with the appropriate battery charge level.

I have already tried an SMC reset. Please let me know what else I can try.

Hoping I won't have to return this battery.

When faced with a dead system we often need to be a bit more aggressive than just resetting the SMC as its often in a latched state.

Lets give this a try, carefully disconnect the battery and now with nothing plugged in press and hold the power button for a good 15 secs to fully discharge the logic board. Now plug in the MagSafe charger (leaving the battery disconnected) the system should spontaneously start up, did it? If it did let the system finish booting and do a proper shutdown. Now plug the battery back in and restart again, did it startup via battery?

Let us know what happens.

Shut down the MacBook. Unplug and then reconnect the power cable. Press Shift + Ctrl + Option/Alt keys and the power button at the same time. Now release all those keys and the power button at the same time.
