If your connector does not look like the one on page 8 of this PDF, see if it has a additional snap on connector that will pull off of the pins: http://www.drivesolutions.com/pdf/MK-602...

+ Some of those add ons have screws holding them on.

ABC - there are no screw holes in the end of this particular drive, see picture. What did this drive come out of as it may be a Proprietary connector

the drive came out of my old laptop, a hp zv5000. I'll check it out tomorrow

@mayer the screw holes are not on the end they are on the bottom and sides of the drive and present on every IDE hard drive for mounting purposes.

Did you make sure you were getting an enclosure for a 2.5" IDE drive? The enclosures (and connectors) for 3.5" IDE drives and 2.5" IDE drives are different. Check out Newegg.com and use the guided search feature in the computer hardware section. Enclosures will be listed under computer cases.

Yes the enclosure is 2.5". the female connector on the enclosure is a correct ide connector, the problem is with the male side of the hard drive. The hard drive has 1 row of flat blade type connectors instead of 2 rows of pins like ide or the 2 plug connectors like on a sata hard drive. The specs i read online say the hard drive is ide. Thanks

I seem to recall that some hard drives for laptops have that type of connector. A proprietary connector doesn't seem likely, as most computer hardware is very standardized. I seem to recall seeing this before and it turned out to be an adapter that slides onto the pins. You should be able to slide it off without too much effort.

Where have I heard that before?

From all the comments and answers on here, it sounds to me like you still have the caddy connector on. All you have to do is pull it of the connector on your drive. This is the connector that enables your drive to be connected to the original equipment and should look like the one in the attached image. I am sure that is what mayer was referring to. This is a comment and not an answer, just wanted to make sure I can add an image so that roxashd9999 has a reference.

From your first reply to Mario T, it is obvious that you've got a mismatch between an IDE enclosure and a SATA hard drive. See: http://www.reclaime.com/library/how-to-t... Hopefully, you discovered that in the year since I saw your inquiry.
