PS3 80GB turns off while playing and a flashing red light appears

I have a PS3 80GB first gen with backwards compatibility. Recently I got toe YLOD and I bought the repair kit to fit it. I followed the steps to repairing and when I turned it on it seemed to work fine. However, the first time I actually tried to play a game I played for about 5mins and then the PS3 turned off by itself and I had a red flashing light. Do you know what happened, what I have to fix, or what I should do?

It seems that ur YLOD wasnt successful. Did u heat up the ps3 motherboard correctly and did use enoghf artic silver on the parts as indicated. Keep me posted.

Yes I heated up the motherboard like the instructions said and then I applied the artic silver as it indicated. I heated up the board on low for about 2mins then I applied a line of the artic silver and spread it out even like it stated.

nothing against ifixit's reflow method because it has worked for me in the past. But the only real good way to reflow a mobo is with an actual reflow station. One that can heat the top and bottom of the board at the same time. With heat guns there is no real good way to tell exactly just how hot the air is that is coming out of the gun and also how hot the board is getting. ROHS Lead Free solder melts at right around 217 degrees Celsius. and unless you get the solder under the chip to that temp it is not a fix that will last.

Heat the whole board until it feels warm and then let it coold down. Then heat up the specific parts longer hot to the touch. Hot the touch meaning touch it with ur finger touch the gpu and if u can stand the heat than u need to apply more heat. But if u cant stand it then the solder is most likely making a better connection. Also try adding Artic Silver on both sides of all the thermal Pads.
