Black Screen diagnosed as bad video card on logic board

After reading many diagnoses for this, I've opened it up and am looking for led lights. My main prob. right now is,

this is a Late 2006 model MA190LL 2gHz

and I can't find a manual here nor on Apple - none of the ones I find are exactly like mine.

I did get the front off and can see the logic board but not the lights.

I think you got the number wrong. A late 2006 17" 2.0 is a MA590LL/A

Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 17-Inch Specs

Identifiers: Late 2006 - MA590LL - iMac5,1 - A1208 - 2114

Yes, it is a typo, I've been looking for the MA590LL but didn't have those next numbers you list. Still, I think maybe there isn't a manual for this one.

So, I am in the front and there are some led lights. Do I need to start over and go to the back?

Right now, I have the screen out, I can see 2 lights lit up but cannot find the SMU reset button. I don't see anything that looks similar to the photo on the Apple page I'm working from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2094

these instructions say to push this reset button next.

This is an Intel machine, not a G5.

I've changed the machine you selected to what I think is the correct one. The diagnostic LEDs on most of these are just to the right of the RAM slots. Sometimes there is a piece of black electrical tape extending from the bottom of the logic board and covering these LEDS. Just remove it. As you can see, this models entrance is through the front screen rather than opening the back. Much more difficult than the older G5 iMacs. The toughest part are the four screws that hold the LCD in place. Best tool is a highly magnetized torx driver to remove and especially replace these recessed screws. Let us know what the LEDs show. Note: the light diagnostics are different for Intel machines as opposed to the G5 lights.

LED #1 = Power available.

If no LED is visible:

• Verify AC source

• Verify known-good AC cable is connected

• Verify cable connection between AC inlet and power supply

• Verify cable connection between power supply and logic board

• Verify power supply

LED #1 + LED #2 = Power available, and system is powered on.

If second LED is not visible when power button is pressed:

• Verify power button connection to logic board

• Verify power button functionality

• Verify cable connection between power supply and logic board

• Verify power supply

• Verify logic board

LED #1 + LED #2 + LED #3 = Power available, system is powered on, and video card found.

If third LED is not visible after power on:

• Verify that video card is seated properly

• Verify logic board

Hook your machine up to an external monitor and let us know if it works.

I do not know where the video card is, I'll check the apple diagnostic and look for it while waiting. thanks

and while you are helping me, is there any place I should not touch?

I believe the video card is integrated into the logic board on this machine. If it's out, you'll need a component level repair. But this may also be a video cable or inverter problem, the external monitor test will help us to know. Touching any exposed electrical contact while the machine is plugged in is hazardous to your health.

I forgot, sorry - nothing on the tv I hooked it to as a display
