My iPhone 7(government phone) broke and I see darker lines so now my phone looks half dark half light and sometimes it will go brighter on the dark part so basically do I need to get it fixed will my phone stop working???

if the phone boots, you can perform a backup with itunes or 3utools, unless you have a passcode and the screen isn't responding.
if that's the case, you may need to connect a good, working display screen to get past the passcode and/or trust this computer popup.

@Mariah Bryant I'd suggest you start a new question and post a couple of pictures of your phone so we can see what you see. It sounds like a damaged screen, but without knowing what it looks like we can't be sure.
