don't forget an issue with the SIM card reader on the logic board.
also, if the phone is network locked, that the SIM card is for that company's network.

Have you considered that the phone could be carrier locked?
This means that it can only use certain SIM cards from certain carriers
If you can find out who it’s locked to you might be able to have it unlocked :-)
