The dial-up telephone port has been broken
The telephone port for dial-up connection is broken and the cable just swims around inside. Is this a major fix, could I do it myself?

I need to know which iMac you have. Can you see any information on it? Go here to help find out: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1463
I've has a couple of hours to think about this and I may have your answer. There may be two ports on your iMac according to which model you have. One is a modem port that takes a standard telephone jack (RJ11) used for a dial up modem connection. The other is a ethernet port (RJ45) which is larger than the telephone jack. The ethernet can be used for networking and connecting to a high speed DSL modem. You may be trying to plug into the wrong port. Would you check this please?

The 10.3 refers to the operating system and does not tell me what the computer is.

Ms Minns: With out you telling us which computer you have, we are not able to give you a clear answer to your question. Has the port ever worked? Is it possible that it is the Ethernet port and not for a modem. By telling us which computer it is we can provide so much more help. Thank you
