Phone not working after replacing LCD screen?

I broke the LCD screen in my iPhone 3g a few months ago and got a repair shop to replace it so when i dropped it last week i could see it was the same problem as last time!

So i ordered a new LCD screen on Ebay and decided to replace it myself. As i was trying to detach the #3 cable i think i slightly damaged the connecter that holds the cable in place. I didn't think much of it and carried on replacing the screen.

I had a lot of trouble getting the cable #1 to clip down but eventually i got the phone back together and it didn't work at all! It wouldn't turn on, didn't vibrate when i put it on silent and iTunes wouldn't recognise it was plugged in! I've tried practically everything on the internet and after lifting up all of the 6 cables (in the hope of one of them being the battery!) i put cables #1, #2 and #3 in place then cables #4, #5 and #6. Now iTunes is recognising the phone and it vibrates when i switch it to silent.

But the screen is still black and the touchscreen doesn't appear to be working (before i replaced the screen the touchscreen was working fine and i could answer calls etc.)

From what i've read cable #3 not working should only be affecting the speakers so i don't think this is the only thing i've done wrong! Really hope someone can help me! I can't afford to replace my phone, i only tried to do it myself to save money!

Prisca, well done for perserverence! I'd take all the connectors off (again) then take out the screws securing the motherboard and lift it free of the battery connection for about 20 minutes. This will reset the phone, it is now powered off, and then when you reconnect everything, all going well, your phone should start up. Press and hold home and power (10 sec until apple appears) for the first start up and all should be good. If the no3 is damaged you can get weird bootloops, no earpiece sound or screen not darkening when near your face on a call. If it is just the locking bar don't panic...I have plenty of them that worked without that piece, just feed the flex in as the guide says and maybe put a bit of tape to keep it in. Let us know how you get on.

no it's not! it might be a bit tricky for the average DIY'er but damage to the no3 connector is no reason to declare the motherboard dead.
