Lines in display after short circuit / power adapter failure

Hi everyone,

my ~10y old mac (thin, non 5k) turned off out of nowhere and the fuse in our appartment was blown out too.

since pluggin it back in just caused another short circuit i went ahead, opened the display and replaced the power adapter.

after the replacement i had these two lines in my screen

my question is: do i need to replace the display? i made sure the flex cable is connected properly, but maybe it broke?

kind regards

I'm assuming this is an iMac with a glued in display since the picture shows it running macOS Catalina. My best guess is that the display was bent or flexed a little too much when you were handling it. It's really easy to damage those displays during the removal process because even slightly bending the display can cause vertical columns of dead pixels to appear. I think at this point you would need to replace the display to fix the issue. Good luck!

To add to Zack’s answer, often I see this when someone didn’t use the special cutter which is part of the tape kit for the given system iMac Opening Wheel
