Can't replace rear camera as it needs to be pre-programmed?

Sent my phone to get its rear camera replacement, reputable company.

However, it's been over 2 weeks now. They've said that they need to take a camera from an existing phone to replace it. Because an OEM or replacement camera won't work as it needs to be pre-programmed.

I've never heard of this, and there are plenty of videos of S20's cameras being replaced with no mention of programming.

It just seems weird if they're lying or have made a mistake. Tempted to get my phone back and do the repair myself, but then if it actually does need programmed I'd be screwed.

I replace allready many cameras on this model and never was problem. Only sometimes selfie camera modul was not compatible with main board becouse exist more revisions. Never i was see some samsung camera prorgaming, i think not exist. Only fingerprint sensor need calibracion but camera not.

Thanks for the info. Can I ask were you replacing all the rear camera modules? And if so, did you use OEM cameras? Or 'Genuine Samsung Replacement Cameras'. Or were they salvaged from other phones?

(Solved) Why Is my Front Facing camera not working after a lcd repair?

This thread does seem to show some people having issues with rear camera working, but apparently downloading a google open camera app fixed it. Might phone again and mention what I've found to encourage them to at least try a camera in the phone.
