iPhone behaving strangely during charge

iPhone 2G was working perfectly. Battery working well and lasting properly until my nephew ran the battery down past warning and into shut down. After recharging overnight, I noted the battery would beep each time alternately changing indication from fully charged to failed within 2 seconds. Now it refuses to charge and won't boot giving me the flashing red charge indicator. I know the battery seems the obvious possibility but I suspect the battery meter software or circuitry could be borked or that the charge-up from such a low state may have blown a fuse. I am comfortable with a soldering iron. Is the charge-up circuitry repairable on the A1203 motherboard or is there a fuse like on the 3G?

Gina, the very first thing I would do is to replace the battery. The iPhone does weird things with a bad battery. Yours must certainly be at the end of its lifespan, unless you recently replaced it. You can also use a voltmeter on the battery points and see what your voltage is when you charge your phone. Try an AC charger since it does supply a higher amperage to the battery.

I've had a similar event in the past and the phone was restored without a new battery. It was only software indicating the battery failure. The battery was fine. This one is no longer booting at all and providing no charging indication. Anyone else who read my entire post care to contribute?
