Why did brakes fail after repair?

If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it, my problem is that I replaced my front rotors, pads, rear shoes, rear lines, and spring kit, and it was fine for about two days, then on Saturday I was on my way home from work, and I went to make a stop at a red light and had no breaks at all, and my ABS light came on, so I limped home 1.5 miles down back roads. If anyone has an idea on how to fix this I'm all ears.

When you press the brake pedeal, does it go all the way to the floor? Have you checked the brake fluid level in the reservoir under the hood?

You generally should be able to replace the wear parts of brake systems (pads, shoes, rotors, drums) without drama. However, if you broke the seal on the hydraulic system (replaced front calipers, rear calipers/wheel cylinders, or brake lines anywhere in the system), you must bleed all the air from the brake lines.

Did you bleed the system? If not, it could cause the behavior you described. It's pretty easy with basic tools & a helper. There are ways to do by yourself as well, but it takes some extra gear.

Go to YouTube and search on 'bleed brakes'. There are lots of videos to choose from. The process is pretty standard among car brands and models. It will vary slightly if you are doing drum brakes vs. disc.

Hope that helps you.

We also have a guide here on iFixit for bleeding brakes with a power bleeder. We did the procedure with a Volvo 240, but it's going to be the same for almost any car.

When you replaced the lines, did you bleed the system? If there's a leak in your new connections or air in your master cylinder you may have lost pressure in your brake fluid. I'd suggest retracing your steps and making sure nothing is leaking.

Start by pressing the brake pedal and seeing if it squeezes the caliper pistons and presses the pads against the rotors. If not, see if there is any brake fluid in the system. Then check to see if there's a leak anywhere the lines were disconnected or changed.

Am thinking you got some air in your brake system....bleed the brakes rr first then or..... Then front right and then driver side.....if that does not give you. A hard break pedal.....you might want to check master cyclinder......also check your pads to. See if installed properly.....it is possible that the pad that clips go into piston was not installed proper...even though the pads are grove...the clips on back of pad that goes into piston could

Fit the pad just a little to high giving you a solf pedal ....

I found out that a valve can stick one way. causing the effect of loss of fluid and pressure. check that. ( happened after i did my back break line. Front failed it was a stuck valve in the abs system.
